its a great feeling to see yourself on the internet. I am one of the pupils unveiling the memorial and i thought it was a experiance among all. I’m the one in the Black and red coat ( the odd one out to the pupils of The Hill School). That poem at the bottom is mine. Yippee. A special thanks to Pete Shields for making that day possible for me.

I found your website while trawling the web. I am from Goldthorpe originally. I was born in 1944. I am interested to know if the male choir pictured on the website is The Thurnscoe Male Voice Choir as my brother-in-law, Ernest Frederick Smith was a member many years ago.

When our ancestors came to Australia they left a very large family in and around the Barnsley area. Thanks to your site Peter I have found the resting place of 136 of them and still counting....a great result for my research....with thanks from John

I only found this site today and have found burials for both sets of my great grandparents after searching for 5 years.

I am now looking foward to coming up from Essex in a few weeks time to visit their graves.

An excellent site. Many thanks. Researching Wood family from Carlton/Curworth and very interesting to find family shared a grave with Ripley family. Perhaps someone will have the time to tackle other regions!!

Excellent site and well worth the money for tokens! I have found dozens of ancestor's burials, so very happy.

One thing to improve search results would be a date button, so we can narrow down search results to a certain time period, as with common names, I have returned between 6 - 15 page results.

Other than that, great site and glad I found it! (via Google)

I have only found this site and know that a lot of hard work has gone into preparing all the details.My question before I start to search is there any way to be able to tell who is husband /wife and /or children, I have names where there are pages by said name.

Hi Margaret,

All the information is taken from the Burial Registers and there are no indications of who was the Husband, Wife or Child,the reason we give 50 pages of search material is so you can have a good look through, but who is who's relation is not available.

This is an amazing source for family tree researchers. I have found many relatives and am indebted to you. A big ask - would it be possible to store our searches for later use and evaluation ? Sometimes we don't realise the value of a record until later.

@Judy unfortunately we will not be adding the ability to save results just yet. In the meantime you may find your browser's File -> Save Page As menu option helpful.

You site is very informative, realistically priced. It provided me with several plot numbers for possible relatives, and I had a successful trip around the town visiting Darfield, Ardsley and Barnsley Cemeteries. My next trip will take in Hoyland , roston and Monk Bretton.

I think that what you have done as volunteers in so short a time is absolutely stunning. It is a project that every community needs but until yours, none have had, or to my knowledge have. As a Yorkshireman living in Essex, and marrying a 'London' girl, it came as a surprise to discover that we both had family links throughout the Dearne valley from Denby Dale to Mexborough, and may even have a common family background in Ardsley, although no link was established before I lost my wife to cancer in 2001 when family history research was brought to an abrupt stop. Having recently retired and having outstanding commitments to renovate my family's graves, I've taken up the baton again and been directed to cemeteries.org by the bereavement services. I wasn't sure what to expect, but am amazed, (I could phrase that more dramatically), at what you have done. I'm making a donation by means of acquiring credits. I wish I lived closer and could offer more practical help.

A big thank you to Peter for helping to find my brothers grave. He died of Spina Bifida in 1968 and was buried in an unmarked grave. Thanks to the selfless dedication and timely response from Peter Shields, my parents and myself have been able to finally put to rest my brother Mark. It is very touching to see such humanity, what we thought was lost forever was found by a kind and thoughful man. Many thanks, Carl.

This is a terrific site. It's such an invaluable asset to have indexes for all the Barnsley area cemeteries & crematoria in one place. Before Bolton-on-Dearne Council Cemetery opened burials were at St Andrew The Apostle Churchyard, I have the burial details from 1674-1904 when burials ceased, email me if you want me to look anyone up for you as the data is in Two Books, petershields184@hotmail.com

Thank you for a most helpful and informative web site
I will be making a trip to Bolton upon dearne this coming sunday 16/10/11 in the hope of finding the graves of my Grandad Frederick Nelson Bodkin and Uncle Herbert
is it possible for you to tell me if there is a grave marker or head stone in existance for these previously 2 lost family members I know the plot reffs J 486 & K 580 respectivly from my search but dont know if any mamorial info is available

maybe this is something that could be added to the serch results on your already wonderful site as I'm sure that there are many unmarked graves in most cemateries across the country

can I also say what fantastic value for Money your service provides in what is rapidly becoming a very expensive quest to find my family history

Most were buried in Local Churchyards, I have Hoyland St Peters Churchyard, Burials, All Saints Darfield,St Helens, Thurnscoe and St Andrews, Bolton-on-Dearne. Sorry but thses are the only ones I have managed to get hold of.

i am searching on behalf of a friend for his late uncle Winston Kirk who died at the age of 22.He is buried in jump cemetary.i am made to believe you served in the same regiment and would be grateful of any funeral photos/copies etc.His plot number is 1292u.My friend would like to maintain his uncles grave.He lived at 80 allotts crescent at the time.

I have some photos of Winstons Funeral and some other photos of him in Malaya also of his grave, Before Chrictmas 2 10 year old boy srayed several headstones with black paint, thi included Winstones, but I phoned the Crematorium Office about it and It had already been been cleaned by the Neighbourhood Pride Graffiti Team.

I am fairly new to Genealogy and am grateful for all the help from other searches. My fathers family are proving difficult to sort out but I think I found help from your site yesterday .What I should like to Know is now I have grave references how do I work out where the numbers start .I can print off the map which gives me areas but not sure about the rest.

Hi Elaine,

Contact me with the Grave Reference and Cemetery on my email address and I will send you the Grave Plot Map, which shows the grave plan and numbers.
When you have this, you go to the Cemetery and find a headstone with a number and work from there, or count the rows down and in which will bring you to the grave. petershields184@hotmail.com
