There are now 20,000 entries in the Cremation Register that have been indexed, this gives the Date of Death, Cremation Date, Address and Ashes Disposal. The disposal of Ashes is either in the Crematorium Grounds or to a certain Cemetery Cremation Plot or Grave.
1962-1969 are on the website, when 1970-1979 is complete these will be added to the site, I am on 1977 at the moment.

I cant find any record of Mary Corbett died 1973 New Lodge area.William Corbett abt 1985 and Doreen Corbett 2006.I have however seen a plaque at Barnsley crematorium of all three.

Hi Val,
Mary died 20-10-1973 age 48 her ashes are "Strewn North Glade"
I have just finished Indexing 1978 so the later dates wont be on the website.

I can't find Derek Wyld died 1997 and cremated at Ardsley Crem but no record on site - Why?

Also Mary Waring who is at Ardsley Crem and died 2000ish

Hi Mrs Bromley,

Cremation information on the site is from 1962-1970, the Cremations are still being indexed and I am up to November 1978, if you need any information please email me at petershields184@hotmail.com and I will send you the information you require.
The Barnsley Chronicle said the Cremations were completed but it was the Cemeteries that are indexed up to 4-1-2010.

DEAR PETER

I AM LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON MY DAD WILLIAM HOLLAND HE DIED 11MAY 2002
WAS CREMATED AT ARDSLEY ON EITHER THURSDAY 16MAY OR FRIDAY 17MAY I AM LOOKING FOR THE LOCATION OF HIS ASHES.

ANY INFORMATION WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED.

Hi Cara,

Your Nans ashes are interred in Plot DD - Row 9 - No 351, the ashes are burried in a Lawned area so there will be no marker of the exact spot.
there is a Plaque on the side of the footpath with " In loving memory of Barbara Burley,+ inscription" if you back to the Crematorium Office one of the Staff will show you the Plaque, or the the area of internment of ashes.

I'm doing my family history & would like to find out if my grandmother was cremated or buried in one of the Barnsley cemeteries. Her name was Lily Keegan & I think she died in 1945, she lived on Main Street Wentworth but she died in Barnsley. Any information would be greatly received.

Sorry love but there is no Lily Keegan in any of the 20 Councill Cemeteries, I have had a look in St Peters Hoyland, Cremations started in 1962 in the Barnsley Borough.

Hi Peter,

I am looking for the details of the cremation for my Grandmother and Grandfather. Grandmother's name is Irene Haigh (nee Oxley) died 2000, and Grandfather is George Haigh died 1982. Any information you have would be appreciated.

George Haigh - Died 9-1-1983 - Cremated 14-1-1983 - Age 73 - Address 113 Dodworth Road, Barnsley- Ahses Strewn North Glade Ardsley Crematorium Grounds.
I havnt done 2000 yet, I will let you know as soon as I get the info.

Hi again Peter,

I am struggling to find information on my great grandmother, Sarah Ann Westwood (nee White). I know that she died around 1933, but I cant find any record of a burial / cremation. I hoping to find details of a burial so that I can see if her parents names are listed on the grave stone. Would you happen to have any details for her? Thanks for all your help.

Hi Peter I contacted the crematorium and enquired about Albert and Annie Smith,my Aunt and Uncle.It seems Albert died 1981 and Annie about 1987/1990. I am struggling to find if they came from the same address and if there is a plaque.They are very common names to research.I would be very grateful if you can find any further information,

Annie Died 14-2-1990- Cremated 20-2-1990 Strewn North Glade No 45657

Both Lived at 262 Sheffield Road,Birdwell

I dont know if there is a plaque, the Crematorium Office have records of the Plaques, Quote the Cremation Entry No
